15 Underrated New OSRS Items Every Player Should Try

Old School RuneScape has evolved massively over the past few years, and nowhere is that more obvious than in item progression. Jagex has added a huge number of alternatives to classic gear, filling gaps across early, mid, and endgame content. Many of these items are surprisingly powerful, affordable, and still heavily underused.

Below are some of the strongest new items you should seriously consider adding to your setup, whether you’re a progressing account or pushing toward endgame PvM. A large amount of RS gold will help you.

Arkan Blade

One of the most overlooked quest rewards in OSRS is the Arkan Blade, obtained for free by completing The Final Dawn. Despite being a master-level quest, the requirements are reasonable for midgame accounts.

Stat-wise, it matches the dragon scimitar in strength while also offering a strong stab option. What really sets it apart is its special attack. For just 30% special energy, it deals 50% extra damage and applies a burn effect, making it incredibly effective against higher-defence monsters. It sits comfortably between DDS and Burning Claws in terms of DPS and is an excellent budget spec weapon.

Dragon Hunter Wand

The Dragon Hunter Wand was once considered a novelty, but recent balance changes have turned it into a legitimate powerhouse. It provides a 10% magic damage bonus, can autocast Ancient spells, and now has greatly improved accuracy and damage against dragons.

Compared to much more expensive alternatives like the Nightmare Staff, this wand is incredibly cost-effective. At its current price point, it’s a fantastic option for dragon Slayer tasks, metal dragons, and magic-based dragon kills.

Moth Mixes

Introduced with Varlamore, moth mixes are some of the best budget consumables in the game. The standout is the Moonlight Moth Mix, which restores 22 Prayer and can be combined with hunter meat to create two doses per inventory slot.

Because their Prayer restoration doesn’t scale with Prayer level, they’re especially strong for early- and midgame players. In many cases, they restore Prayer at a fraction of the cost of traditional Prayer potions. Other mixes, like Black Warlock and Ruby Harvest, function as cheap super attack and strength alternatives for Slayer.

Burning Claws

Few items offer as much power for their price as Burning Claws. While far cheaper than dragon claws, they can rival or even exceed them in certain encounters thanks to their burn effect, which guarantees damage over time.

They shine against medium-defence bosses like Cerberus, Alchemical Hydra, and content such as the Coliseum. Burning Claws are a phenomenal early upgrade that remains relevant deep into PvM progression.

Hunter Meats

Traditional food like manta rays is no longer king. Hunter meats often heal more, cost less, and offer added effects. For example, cooked moonlight antelope heals 26 HP and cures poison, outperforming manta rays at a lower price.

Even budget options like cooked pyre fox heal competitively for a fraction of the cost. For most PvM scenarios, hunter meats are simply the smarter choice.

Eye of Ajak & Confliction Gauntlets

This combo has completely reshaped the magic meta. The Eye of Ajak sits between the Sanguinesti Staff and Tumeken’s Shadow, while the Confliction Gauntlets provide a unique passive that boosts accuracy after missed hits.

Together, they outperform Bow of Faerdhinen setups in many situations, including God Wars Dungeon and raids. The combo offers exceptional accuracy, strong Ancient spell performance, and tremendous versatility, making it a top-tier rebuild option.

Hueycoatl Armour

With its price finally stabilising, Hueycoatl armour has become a superior alternative to blessed d’hide. It offers nearly identical stats with significantly better Prayer bonuses across the set, making it a clear upgrade for midgame ranged setups.

Mixed Hide Set

The Mixed Hide set is one of the strongest early-game additions in recent years. Its hybrid design makes it useful for both melee and ranged combat. The cape provides an early strength bonus before Fire Cape, the body offers strength and stab bonuses, and the boots outperform snakeskin while boosting strength.

For its extremely low cost, it’s a no-brainer pickup for progressing accounts.

Sunlight Hunter Crossbow

The Sunlight Hunter Crossbow is a powerful ranged option unlocked at level 66. Its heavy attack style takes advantage of modern monster weaknesses, making it effective against Slayer monsters like gargoyles and basilisk knights.

It also performs extremely well in early Fight Caves and serves as a solid alternative to the magic shortbow or rune crossbow until you can afford a blowpipe.

Prayer Regeneration Potions

Once reserved for endgame PvM, Prayer Regen Potions have dropped significantly in price. Instead of restoring Prayer instantly, they regenerate Prayer over time, making them ideal for long trips.

At current prices, they’re surprisingly cost-efficient, free up inventory space, and work especially well at lower Prayer levels. They’re now a realistic option for content like Dagannoth Kings.

Bloodbark Armour

Quietly buffed through Project Rebalance, Bloodbark armour now offers magic damage bonuses while maintaining strong defences. It performs similarly to Ahrim’s but costs a fraction of the price and never degrades.

For budget magic setups, Bloodbark is one of the best-value gear sets in the game.

Steel Ring

The Steel Ring, dropped by the Deranged Archaeologist, fills a long-standing early-game gap. It provides massive defensive bonuses, even surpassing an imbued Ring of Suffering defensively.

While offence usually wins out, this ring is incredibly useful for early Fight Caves, ranged setups, and content where survivability matters. A large amount of OSRS gold can also help you.

Moons of Peril Gear

The Moons of Peril equipment has heavily influenced combat metas. Blood Moon armour with dual macuahuitls enables extremely high melee XP rates, while Eclipse functions as a budget blowpipe with a powerful burn effect.

Despite being degradable, Eclipse gear is viable across raids, Fight Caves, Slayer, and even high-end PvM, making it one of the most versatile ranged setups available.

Oathplate Armour

Finally, Oathplate represents one of the best value endgame melee sets in OSRS. It competes with Torva in many encounters at a fraction of the historical cost. With smart mixing, it can rival best-in-slot setups without breaking the bank.
