Madden 26 : Flashback Cards, Surge Currency, and Preparing for Madden 27
Wednesday brings new Flashback content to Madden 26 Ultimate Team. If you are short on resources to acquire the players you want, you can always buy Madden 26 coins to quickly bolster your team. Additionally, the official Madden 27 covers have been revealed, and a major information livestream is scheduled for tomorrow night. This guide covers which Flashback cards are worth weekly spotlight tokens, what to do with Surge currency before it becomes unavailable, and how to begin preparing for the Rookie Premier program.

Madden 27 Cover Reveals
Both official covers for Madden 27 have been revealed.
Standard Edition: Caleb Williams is the cover athlete.
Deluxe Edition: Also features Caleb Williams. The deluxe edition cover is the stronger of the two, though both are acceptable.
Action required: Upon logging into Madden 26 today, a splash screen with a QR code will appear. Tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, a livestream will reveal more information for both College Football and Madden 27. Pre-order options will likely become available shortly after that stream, possibly including bonuses inside Madden 26.
Flashback Content: Evaluating Weekly Spotlight Token Usage
Flashback cards are released every Wednesday during Season 9. Any 99 overall Flashback champion can be claimed for 15 weekly spotlight tokens. The limit is two claims total, and this limit does not reset.
Consideration before spending tokens: Waiting until next Wednesday or the following Wednesday may provide better options.
Flashback Card Features
Every Flashback card includes a passive X-Factor bucket for 2 AP. This provides good value. However, many cards do not meet the stat thresholds required to unlock the most desirable abilities.
Champion Cards (99 Overall)
Marquise "Hollywood" Brown (Wide Receiver)
The preferred ability for receivers is YAC 'Em Up.
His break tackle rating is 89. The required rating for YAC 'Em Up is 98. He does not meet this threshold.
Without this ability, the card is not worth tokens.
Upgrade information: Fully upgrading with 92, 95, and 97 upgrades unlocks team chemistries for NFC North teams and any team he has played for.
Drew Dalman (Center)
Receives Secure Protector for 0 AP.
Receives Vanguard for 3 AP.
Alternative option: For players not using team captain tokens, Alex Mack can be upgraded to 99 overall and also receives Secure Protector for 0 AP. Only select Dalman if a free center is urgently needed.
Marshon Lattimore (Cornerback)
The required threshold is 99 awareness to obtain Universal Coverage for 2 AP. He does not meet this threshold.
His ratings are 99 man coverage and 97 zone coverage.
For man coverage: use Bottleneck for 2 AP or Shutdown for 2 AP.
He does not receive Zone Hawk or Universal Coverage.
He will provide knockouts in man or zone coverage, but overall the card is not recommended.
Grover Stewart (Defensive Tackle) – The Best Option This Week
He receives all desirable abilities:
Colossus for 2 AP
Unstoppable Force for 2 AP
Double or Nothing for 0 AP
Inside Stuff for 0 AP
Caveat: Many defensive tackles with this same ability stack have been released previously. Only select him if a starting defensive tackle is still needed on the roster.
LTD Cards (Limited Time)
These 99 overall cards will carry high prices on the auction house. Pack openings are minimal on Wednesdays for Flashback content. Both cards will be more affordable tomorrow.
Dawson Knox (Tight End)
LTD cards do not have attribute thresholds. He will receive YAC 'Em Up.
Despite this, the price is not justified. Superior tight ends are available, including Golden Ticket Trevor Lawrence, Johnny Wilson, or Frank Crumb.
Bobby Wagner (Linebacker)
Height: 6'0". Speed: 98.
Block shed, power move, zone coverage, acceleration, and tackle are all 99.
For the passive bucket, choose between Universal Coverage or Avalanche.
Recommendation: Select Avalanche. The current meta focuses on forcing fumbles. Pair with Mid Zone KO, Lurk Artist, and Deep Zone KO as 0 AP options.
Universal Coverage is more important for defensive backs than linebackers.
Despite being a functional card, the price is not justified.
Surge Currency Management
The Surge tab in the store displays countdown timers of 24 hours or less. Many packs will become unavailable soon, potentially all of them.
Historical context: In the previous two years, the Theme Team Surge program currency did not convert to coins. No conversion should be expected this time.
Surge currency options:
Upgrade Surge players. This is the primary function.
Spend on 92+ and 94+ packs. These become unavailable tomorrow.
Retain the currency. Training packs do not currently have countdown timers. If they become unavailable, the only method to obtain Surge currency will be purchasing cards from the auction house and quick-selling them. Those cards may become scarce over time.
Recommendation: Retain Surge currency for future use upgrading Surge players. To generate coins, replace auctionable players on the roster with upgraded Surge players, then sell those cards.
Preparing for Rookie Premier (Madden 27)
The Rookie Premier program is anticipated in July with Season 10. This program allows players to earn cards that transfer to Madden 27 Ultimate Team.
The recommended coin target is 6 million coins.
For players planning to participate in Madden 27 Ultimate Team and the Rookie Premier program, all current efforts should focus on reaching the 6 million coin threshold.
Methods to reach this target:
Sell players from the current roster.
Replace them with Surge cards using training obtained from packs.
Upgrade those Surge players to remain competitive.
Accumulate coins aggressively.
Actions to Avoid
Do not purchase Flashback packs with real currency. The cards are not sufficiently valuable. Even for players who desire a specific card, prices will be lower tomorrow. Reserve currency for the Positional Heroes promo releasing tomorrow.
Upcoming content:
Positional Heroes promo.
Full card reveals on GMM tomorrow morning.
Preview cards on Twitter tonight at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time.
